About Anne

“Her work is so abstract you can never tell if a couple is beautiful, but you can tell they feel beautiful.”

from Anne’s favorite review, by Lois Smith Brady for The New York Times, writing about her watercolors of weddings.

Carrying a kit of watercolors nearly everywhere, NYC based artist Anne Watkins creates portraits from direct observation. Whether the subjects are brides or Border Collies, jazz musicians or kids at play, she records unfolding moments as they happen.

Before devoting her full attention to painting, Anne was the window display director for Hermès in NYC, and Mark Cross and COACH, worldwide.

Retailers Bergdorf Goodman, COACH, Levi's, Paul Stuart and Saks Fifth Avenue have used her watercolors to promote fashion collections.

In addition to commissioned portraits and event documentation, Anne’s watercolors are used as illustrations.  To keep herself on keel, she paints the subjects in and near her home on Riverside Drive in every season and at all times of day and night.
